According to the ATO, as at 30 June 2008 there were around 6.4 million 'lost' super accounts, totalling a staggering $12.9 billion.

Could you have lost super?

If you have changed jobs, addresses or names, you could be listed on the ATO's Lost Members Register. This is a list of people who super funds have reported to the ATO as lost.

Find your lost super

The ATO has a free service called SuperSeeker which searches the Lost Members Register and other tax records to reunite you with your lost super. You need to provide your:

• name
• date of birth
• Tax File Number (TFN)
